KANNAWIDAN YLOCOS FESTIVAL: Pride of the Ilocano Culture
Many of Ilocos Sur's customs, songs, dances, and other aspects of Ilocano culture are unfamiliar to the younger generations. It is important to maintain this rich history and unique culture for future generations. Children today are more interested in modern and novelty dances that they see on television than they are in traditional dances. It is also necessary to examine the various items produced by the various towns, as well as the agricultural products and livestock produced by farmers and fishermen. As a result, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur devised a festival that would emphasize the province's culture and customs while also attracting both local and international tourists.
The festival is known as the Kannawidan
Ylocos Festival. Vigan commemorates Kannawidan, an annual festival that takes
place in the city of Vigan. During this event, the Ilocano people present
traditional performances, indigenous items, and the abilities of the Ilocano
people. The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival, which takes place every year, is
intended to promote awareness about the need to preserve traditional and
cultural customs in the province. It also displays a variety of agricultural
and industrial products produced in the province. There is a pressing need to
protect our rich cultural history and unique way of life. With this in mind,
the provincial government of Ilocos Sur has devised a festival that will
highlight the province's culture and traditions while also attracting both
local and international tourists. It is popular because it displays the culture
of the Ilocanos, which separates them from the other ethnic groups in the
Philippines.
This celebration is extremely important to every inhabitant of the province since it commemorates the establishment of Ilocos Sur as a province as a result of the Royal Decree signed on February 2, 1818, which established the region as a province. The Philippine Historical Committee has designated Ilocos Sur, and particularly Vigan, as "the Heart of Ilocandia." It is a culturally and historically rich province. Kannawidan is a word that signifies "traditions," and this province has the opportunity to show off everything she has to offer. The Ilocanos had their eyes opened as a result of this occasion to the culture and traditions that their forefathers and foremothers had brought them from the past. Kannawidan is a celebration of who we are as Ilocanos, as well as a time of thankfulness and the exchange of crafts and products between neighbors. It's also our way of honoring the Ilocano spirit that continues to motivate residents to contribute to the development of their own province. With pride, we present our culture and customs to the rest of the globe.

Very informative blog! I learned a lot from this. Keep up the good work!
TumugonBurahinI agree that Kannawidan is a celebration of who we are as Ilocanos, since we showcase here our local products, traditions, and cultures, all in one, when we celebrate this festival of ours. And I really hope that the next time we celebrate this festival, there will be no more pandemic which is a hindrance in fully celebrating it.
